User Research: Competitive Analysis

Goal

To analyze, evaluate and compare the experience of 3 competitors:
Procore, Fieldwire, & Plangrid

Duration

1 week

Approach

Use and take notes on Web and iOS of all 3 products vs. Bluebeam:

  • Offerings (What type of a platform is it?)

  • Features/Functionality (What is the user able to do?)

  • Content Strategy (How are the features/functionality organized?)

  • Screen Recordings link to Sharepoint

A Closer Look

Takeaways

If I could do it all over again, I would compare Android platform (device was unavailable at the time) because there are a significant amount of users in the field who use Bluebeam Cloud on their Android devices. Secondly, I would produce a matrix comparing all 4 products to compare all of the products to each other and not just to Bluebeam.

Design Systems

Screen Shot 2024-01-02 at 11.29.03 AM.png

Generated a comprehensive guide delineating distinctions between the design systems employed by iOS and Android to use when designing new features and to improve existing ones.

How: Made two columns for iOS and Android, categorized types of features to focus on based on the existing ones that Bluebeam used, then compared and contrasted

Takeaways: I learned how important it is to utilize a design system because it will be more intuitive for users if they are familiar

UX Writing / Copy

Identified all of the copy differences between all platforms to improve consistency and enhance user flow.

How: I made two columns for Web and iOS, highlighted the differences, and included rationale for recommendations.

During design jams with the team to fix these inconsistencies, I recommended the best choices and why.

Takeways:
Small changes have a big impact.
